The GLOBE Program

Short description
The GLOBE Program is an international science and education initiative that engages schools in collecting environmental data and using the scientific process to investigate the Earth system. Students work with observations related to atmosphere, hydrology, soils, land cover and ecosystems, then compare local findings with data from other regions. It is highly relevant for ECOTEACH because it links real environmental contexts with inquiry-based STEM learning and gives teachers concrete classroom and field activities that are easy to adapt. For disadvantaged schools, it offers a strong model of low-cost, community-connected science learning that builds observation, measurement, data literacy and environmental responsibility through authentic participation in global citizen science.
