Project-Based Learning in Spanish Schools
Short description
Project-Based Learning (PBL), known in Spain as “Aprendizaje Basado en Proyectos (ABP),” is a widely used pedagogical approach that promotes active, student-centred learning through the development of projects based on real-world challenges. This methodology is increasingly implemented in Spanish schools as a way to enhance student engagement and improve learning outcomes.
In PBL, students work collaboratively to investigate questions, solve problems, and develop solutions over an extended period. This approach supports the development of key STEM competences, including critical thinking, problem-solving, data analysis, and collaboration.
Within the framework of Environment-Based Learning (EBL), PBL is particularly effective, as it allows students to explore environmental issues such as sustainability, climate change, or resource management through hands-on projects. Students can collect data, analyse results, and propose solutions connected to their local environment.
This methodology is especially valuable in disadvantaged educational contexts, as it encourages participation, motivation, and inclusive learning. By allowing different roles and levels of involvement, it supports diverse learning needs and promotes collaborative learning environments.
