Schools for Sustainability Network
Short description
The Schools for Sustainability Network is a Spanish educational initiative that promotes the integration of sustainability principles into school life through collaborative projects, environmental management, and active student participation. The network connects schools committed to improving their environmental practices and educational approaches.
The project supports STEM learning by involving students in practical activities such as measuring energy consumption, analysing waste generation, monitoring biodiversity, and designing improvement plans for the school environment. These activities help students apply scientific and mathematical concepts to real situations.
Within Environment-Based Learning (EBL), the initiative transforms schools and their surroundings into learning laboratories where students investigate environmental challenges and develop practical solutions. It promotes inquiry-based learning, collaboration, and responsibility.
This project is especially valuable in disadvantaged contexts, as it encourages inclusive participation and experiential learning. Students can engage in visible and meaningful actions that improve their school community while strengthening motivation and civic engagement.
