Environment-Friendly 1000 Schools Project

The “Çevre Dostu 1000 Okul Projesi” is a national initiative implemented by the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. The project aims to transform schools into environmentally sustainable learning environments through practical environmental education, renewable energy applications, recycling systems, and climate-friendly school infrastructure.
Within the project, schools implemented activities such as waste separation systems, school gardening, water-saving applications, solar energy systems, environmental awareness workshops, and sustainability-focused STEM activities. Students actively participated in environmental monitoring and eco-friendly school practices, making schools real-life laboratories for Environment-Based Learning.
The project is highly relevant for ECOTEACH because it combines environmental education, sustainability awareness, STEM learning, and participatory school practices through transferable and practical educational activities. It also supports disadvantaged schools by improving both physical learning environments and environmental literacy.
