Eco-Schools

Short description
Eco-Schools is a long-running whole-school sustainability framework that supports schools in embedding environmental learning into daily practice, student participation and school improvement. Through its structured Seven Steps approach, students investigate local environmental issues, plan actions, monitor progress and communicate results to the wider community. The model fits ECOTEACH well because it combines environmental awareness with practical, problem-solving learning across science, mathematics and interdisciplinary STEM themes. It is especially useful for disadvantaged contexts because it does not depend on expensive equipment; instead, it builds learning through school-based inquiry, teamwork and visible local action. The framework also supports inclusion by giving students meaningful roles in decision-making and by connecting learning to their immediate environment.
