World’s Largest Lesson

Short description
World’s Largest Lesson is a global educational initiative that helps teachers introduce the Sustainable Development Goals through classroom activities, videos, creative tasks and action-oriented learning. It is a strong good practice for ECOTEACH because it makes sustainability issues accessible to students and connects environmental topics with science, mathematics, citizenship and problem-solving. Teachers can use it to create low-resource classroom examples on clean water, affordable energy, climate action, responsible consumption, biodiversity or sustainable cities. Students may calculate household energy use, classify waste, design awareness posters, compare local and global environmental challenges, or develop small school-based actions linked to the SDGs. The initiative is especially suitable for disadvantaged schools because many activities can be implemented without specialised equipment and can be adapted to different literacy levels. It also supports inclusive participation through visual resources, storytelling, group discussion, drawing, oral communication and project work. Its classroom-ready materials make it highly transferable across countries and school contexts.
