Libera Project – United Against Litter
Short description
The Libera Project is a national Spanish initiative promoted to combat littering in natural environments through environmental awareness, citizen participation, and educational activities. The project engages schools, local communities, and organisations in actions aimed at protecting ecosystems and promoting responsible environmental behaviour.
The initiative supports STEM education by involving students in environmental observation, data collection, waste classification, and analysis of human impact on ecosystems. Through practical activities, learners develop scientific understanding while applying mathematics and problem-solving skills in real contexts.
Within the Environment-Based Learning (EBL) framework, Libera provides a strong example of how local environmental challenges can become meaningful learning opportunities. Students explore their surroundings, investigate environmental problems, and participate in actions that generate visible impact.
This project is particularly relevant for disadvantaged educational contexts, as it promotes active participation, teamwork, and accessible outdoor learning experiences. It encourages inclusion by allowing students to contribute through practical and collaborative tasks, regardless of academic level.
