Eco-Schools Greece

Short description
Eco-Schools Greece is the Greek implementation of an international sustainability education programme coordinated nationally by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature. It supports schools in transforming everyday school life through participatory environmental committees, action plans, eco-codes and collaboration with the local community. It is a strong good practice for ECOTEACH because it connects environmental issues such as waste, water, energy, biodiversity and sustainable consumption with practical science and mathematics activities. Teachers can use the model for school energy audits, waste measurement, biodiversity mapping in the schoolyard, water-use calculations and student presentations of evidence-based proposals. The practice is especially suitable for disadvantaged schools because it can be implemented with low-cost materials, observation, simple measurement and teamwork rather than specialised laboratories. It supports inclusive participation by allowing students to contribute through data collection, drawing, discussion, photography, oral presentation, planning and community action.
