Learning Science Through Theatre

Short description
Learning Science Through Theatre is a pedagogical approach that combines science learning with theatre, storytelling, performance and collaborative creation. It is particularly relevant for ECOTEACH because it offers a low-resource and inclusive way to teach STEM concepts through environmental themes. Instead of relying only on textbooks or laboratory equipment, students can investigate a topic such as climate change, water scarcity, biodiversity loss, energy saving or pollution and transform their scientific understanding into a short performance, dialogue, role-play or public presentation. The methodology supports inquiry because students must research evidence, understand scientific concepts, organise information and communicate it accurately. It also supports disadvantaged learners because it provides many ways to participate: acting, writing, drawing, measuring, narrating, building simple props, presenting data or supporting group organisation. Teachers can use it for classroom examples such as “a debate between renewable and fossil energy”, “the journey of a plastic bottle” or “a community meeting about local water use”.
